Making it home

This chest has had a story to tell. It started out as a blanket chest at the foot of our bed many years ago. We got tired of stubbing our toe on it and put it in our basement. My son painted it black and even put skulls on it for his band room. Well it moved here with us, thinking it would sit in the shop for storage BUT this weekend it was painted red and brought up to the kitchen. I am going to make a cushion for it eventually (remember I gotta get that sewing room ready first!) and it can be a quasi-window seat and extra seating at our "table for two."

Funny how you look at things you have around you forever and it can make even a new house feel like home. I just love these - especially the red and white! I appreciate the work that went into them as I neither knit or crochet well.

I have never used these wall letters before but saw them on sale at Hobby Lobby (a store we did not have in PA!!) and thought they would be perfect over our bed. Still looking for the perfect bedding. Our last bedroom had Waverly rose wallpaper ceiling to floor (that we had to strip-ugh- for selling the house) and a four poster cherry bed. We are going for a different look here but have not found the perfect bedding yet. On a side note, mom and I went to Tuesday Morning last Saturday morning (now that sounds odd) because she wanted to get these bed lights that were in the circular. Can you believe that folks were lined up at the door before the store opened (we were #3). I heard people talking about the bedlights while we were in line so I knew there would be a rush on them. I positioned myself for a quick start to find them, leaving mom in my dust. Found them! There were plenty for everyone who wanted them. I decided to get some as well. They don't give a lot of light but do make it easier to read in bed.

Yes, it is starting to feel like home. I will be away for a few days though and know it will feel great to get back home ..... after celebrating a VERY SPECIAL someone's first birthday!

Have a great visit, Sue!

How proud you must be of your new little one!

See you when you get back.

Love your chest and your bedroom setting. What a cute idea for above the bed!

Isn't it great fun to repurpose what you have and start putting your own personalization on your new home?!

You are doing a great job of making your new house a home. Where in NC are you? I live in Hendersonville, just south of Asheville.

Oh a first birthday already! Have fun!

Those bed lamps look so nice and I've never seen anything like them. I think that they'd be much more satisfactory than what we are using...a floorlamp that has such a tricky switch. If one were nearly asleep before turning it off, one is wide awake after the fight. Yup, something must be done!

Everything is coming together so beautifully! Good idea about the blanket chest.
